No More Excuses!!

Purpose

I recently traveled to a conference with a friend, Scott. Scott has a medical condition which affects his balance and ability to walk without a cane. He made a decision over the last several months to get in better shape. While limited to what he can do, Scott has found lifting weights and walking on the treadmill while holding on to the side rails to be his perfect workout routine.

One morning around 6:30 am before the conference started for the day, I sent Scott a text and asked if he wanted to go for a walk.

The reply simply stated. “I just finished a 70-minute workout.”

Reading between the lines what he was really saying was, “You slept in but now it's time for you to get up and get moving buddy!”

I listened to his implied chastisement and got in a 30-minute run before we headed off to the conference.

I realized that if anyone has an excuse to skip a workout, it’s Scott! However he hasn’t let his condition stop him from doing everything under his control to improve his health. As a result of his daily decision to be disciplined, Scott has lost over 30 lbs. in just the last few months!

Honestly, we all have excuses why we can’t do those important things that lead to the life we desire.

“I have to work"

"I have to take care of the kids"

"I’m too tired"

"I simply have no time."

Recently, my wife, Carol, spoke to a group of ladies at our church and shared the importance of choosing to be disciplined.

Carol stated that everyone has discipline about something. "Some are disciplined about drinking coffee every day, or getting their nails done every week, or watching their favorite show every Thursday. Discipline is a choice."

Proverbs 25:28 states, "Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control."  We all want the benefits of being more self-controlled but it starts with a decision. Whether it’s working out, reading your Bible, taking your spouse on a date, or learning how to better manage your money. Make a decision to start now.

Don’t be led by your emotions and feelings. Do what you are supposed to and need to do regardless of how you feel. We cannot wait until we have more time or we feel like doing it. We have to choose to do it now.

It is time to stop making excuses and do what you know is best for you!

No more excuses!
